Entry visa to Algeria

 Regularization visas (visa on arrival)

- Tourists traveling to southern Algeria through authorized travel agencies can benefit from this regulation exclusively.

-The wilayas (districts /regions) of the great south to which this new regulation applies are: Tamanrasset, Illizi, Tindouf, Adrar, Bechar, Timimoune, Djanet, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Béni Abbes, Ain Salah, Touggourt.

-Interested citizens can contact directly one of the approved Algerian travel agencies of Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts.

-Foreign tourists are given, by the tourist agencies, a document (boarding authorization) allowing them to board planes of different airlines in their original departing airport.

- Upon their arrival, tourists will obtain a regularization visa for the duration of the organized tourist stay, in accordance with the legislation and regulations in force.

Handing in applications:

Applicants must hand in their applications in person or send them by mail to the Consular Section at the Algerian Embassy between 9:00 am - 01:00 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays (appointment needed). 

-  Applicants by post must send a prepaid self-addressed special delivery envelope for the return of their passport(s).

-  Note: any incomplete application, including the form, will be either rejected if handed in person at the Consular Section at Algerian Embassy or returned to the sender if sent by post.

-The processing time takes at least 15 working days, and it may vary according to the nationality of the applicant and the visa type.

-The Consular Section reserves the right to request additional documentation from applicants.

-The Consular Section has no express service to process applications merely due to planned travel date. Therefore, the Consulate General advises against buying non-refundable or non-flexible tickets until the visa is issued.

-The responsibility for any financial loss lies with the applicant(s).

-The date of departure does not affect the processing time of the visa.

-For applications sent by post, the processing time starts only when the application is received by our office.

-The Consular Section is not responsible for delays due to postal services. Please take note of the code bar number of your recorded envelope to be able to track your returned mail.

 

TRAVEL INSURANCE
 The travel insurance is mandatory for the citizens of the following countries: 
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Romania.
   

Note: The Embassy reserves the right to ask for additional documents to be provided.

  1. Foreigners who are not exempt from this requirement must obtain a visa from diplomatic and consular posts before traveling to Algeria.

 

  1. Foreigners can obtain visas for the following purposes: diplomatic, service, courtesy, press, tourist, business, study, work, temporary work, family, medical, cultural, and transit.

 

  1. Visa application forms can be downloaded from the websites of the diplomatic and consular posts. They must be completed in duplicate and accompanied by:
  • a passport, valid for at least of six months,
  • passport’s photocopy,
  • two (02) recent identity photos,
  • identical identity documents,
  • a travel insurance and repatriation assistance certificate.

The complete application forms and supporting documents must be submitted to the Embassy or Consulate of the applicant's usual place of residence, accompanied by any additional documents required for the type of visa requested.

 

  1. Applicants originating from a foreign country and residing in the host country must provide in support of their application, their residence card and a copy of it.

 

  1. A family visa application must be accompanied by a certificate of accommodation drawn up by a member of the Algerian family of the applicant and legalized by the Town Hall of the place of accommodation of the inviting person in Algeria.

 

  1. A business visa application must be supported by a letter from your employer (mission letter) or an invitation letter from your partner in Algeria in addition to a hotel reservation or a certificate of support from your inviting organization.

 

  1. A tourist visa application must be accompanied by either a certificate of accommodation legalized by the Town Hall of the place of accommodation in Algeria, a hotel reservation, or a certificate from a travel agency specifying the nature and place of the trip.

 

Tourists traveling to Algeria within an organized framework (tourist agencies): the visa is issued within 48 hours after receiving the complete file by the Algerian diplomatic or consular post.

 

  1. A work visa application must be accompanied by a temporary work authorization, an employment contract and a commitment to a repatriation commitment.

 

  1. A temporary work visa application (for a maximum stay of 03 months) must be accompanied by:

 

  • Either an assistance or service provision contract, in which case, the visa is not subject to the prior obtaining of the Provisional Authorization for Temporary Work (APTT);
  • Or an employment contract, a Provisional Authorization for Temporary Work (APTT) and a repatriation commitment.

 

  1. A cultural visa application will be accompanied by an invitation to a seminar or an event of a cultural, scientific or sporting nature and a proof of resources for the duration of the stay.

 

  1. A study visa application must be accompanied by a registration certificate in a public or a private educational establishment approved by the Algerian State, a scholarship certificate issued by the Algerian authorities or the authorities of your country, or a proof of the ability to pay studying and living expenses.

 

  1. A transit visa application must be accompanied by a proof of entry visa for the country of destination in case of requirement of this formality and a proof of resources. Stopover permits from 02 to 7 days are issued to the crews of ships and aircraft.

 

  1. A regularization visa can be issued on arrival, exceptionally and in case of emergency, by the authorized authorities.

 

  1. Visa applicants pay the chancery fees, which vary according to the country. The nationals of certain countries are exempt from paying chancery fees in application of the principle of reciprocity.

 

  1. Visa Extension: The visa can be extended in Algeria under certain conditions.

16- Duration of visa:

Duration of visa validity: 90 days, 180 days, one (01) year and two (2) years.

Duration of stay: the maximum stay per entry in Algeria is 90 days, which can be extended exceptionally, for up to 90 days. The actual cumulative stay may not exceed 180 days per year.

Duration of stay of the transit visa is 07 days.

17- Number of entries:  The number of entries on an Algerian visa depends on the type of visa and the case.

Who can apply for a visa?

The Embassy of Algeria in Oslo accepts only visa applications made by Norwegian citizens or foreign citizens holding a valid residence permit in Norway.

No matter their age, children of accompanying parents need a visa and must also hold an individual passport.

Handing in the application:

Applicants must either hand in their applications in person at the Embassy by booking an appointment on Tuesday or Thursday from 09:00 to 13:00, or sent them by mail to the following address: Embassy of Algeria: Sigurd Syrs Gate 2, 0273 Oslo.

The following documents are required for all types of visas:


Application form:

The application form must be filled using word, printed, dated and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected;

The application form cannot be submitted electronically. The applicant must either bring or send the application form by post to the Algerian Embassy.


Passport:

Passport must have at least six months remaining validity and contain at least two (02) blank visa pages for visa to be issued. Only a copy of the passport must be attached to the application file.


Photos:

Photos must be recent, frontal view, of the same set, taken on a white background, and showing the applicant wearing no glasses of any kind, except for prescription eyewear. Please write the applicant’s first and last names in pencil on the back of the photos.


Travel insurance:

The travel insurance is mandatory for citizens of the following countries:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, F.Y.R of Macedonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. 


Visa fees:

Visa fees vary depending on the visa type, duration of stay, number of entries (single or multiple), and the nationality of the applicant.

Visa fees can be paid by debit/ credit card at the Embassy or via bank transfer to account number 1503.10.43953. Applicants must submit a printed receipt of payment with their application.

Visa fees for Norwegian citizens are as follows:

  • less than 90 days: 1270 NOK
  • more than 90 days: 1515 NOK

Please note that visa fees may change with regard to bank rate (NOK/ EURO);

Citizens of other nationalities should contact the Embassy to confirm the visa fees that apply to them.

Please note that:

  • Visa fees are non-refundable if the visa is denied. 
  • Incomplete applications, including the form, will be rejected if submitted in person at the Embassy or ignored.
  • Download the visa application form Word format, complete the form using Word, then print two copies to include in the file.

Processing time:

  • The processing time for a visa application may vary depending on the nationality of the applicant and the visa type.
  • During certain periods of the year (summer holidays, public holidays), the processing time may be extended.
  • The processing of an application may be delayed if prior agreement by Algerian authorities is required.
  • The Embassy reserves the right to request additional documents or information from applicants.
  • The Embassy does not offer an express visa service to process applications merely due to a planned travel date.
  • The date of departure does not affect the processing time of the visa.
  • The responsibility of any financial loss occurred lies on the applicant.
  • The processing time for applications sent by mail starts from the date of reception at the Embassy’s office.
  • Application forms must bear the original signature of the applicant.
  • The Embassy is not responsible for delays made by postal services.

Return of passports

Applicants can pick up their passports at the Embassy by booking an appointment in advance on Tuesday or Thursday from 09:30 to 12:00.


Period of stay (durée de séjour):

  • Single-entry visa: You can stay the whole granted period (durée du séjour) consecutively.
  • Multiple-entry visa: The maximum period of effective stay in Algeria is 180 days per year. However, this period cannot exceed 03 months in a row.

Visitors must make travel arrangements to Algeria based on the date of entry indicated on their visas. Visitors must not arrive in Algeria before that date, otherwise they will not be allowed to enter. In case of change in travel plans, applicants must apply for a new visa.


Required documents

Applicants for visa entry to Algeria must provide the documents detailed below following each visa category requirement. No scanned or faxed documents are accepted (except in urgent cases duly justified).


Diplomatic or official passport (passeport de service):

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • A note verbale;
  • Diplomatic/ service visa is issued without expenses.

Press visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Three (03) press visa applications form, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Evidence of current occupation in Norway, e.g a copy of the professional card / press card);  
  • Letter of guarantee from the employer;
  • Invitation letter from the Algerian partner may be required;
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.

Tourist visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Evidence of occupation / student status (proof of your current occupation in Norway: e.g. an original letter from your employer).
  • Letter of invitation or lodging certificate legalized by the municipality of residence of the host person in Algeria, a hotel reservation letter, or an invitation from a travel agency;
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for all expenses during stay; 
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.

Business visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Letter of guarantee issued by the employer stating the purpose of the trip;
  • Letter of invitation from Algerian partner;
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.
  • Additional information (formulaire 14) or documents may be required.

Study visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Evidence of occupation (proof of your current occupation in Norway) ;
  • Confirmation of enrolment at a public or private school (accredited by the Algerian Government);
  • Evidence of payment of tuition fees;
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the studies and accommodation;
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.

Work Visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Certified copy of the employment contract;
  • Temporary work permit issued by the relevant Algerian Authorities (Departmental authority of employment);
  • Letter of repatriation / Certificate issued by the relevant services in which the employer certifies to undertake full financial responsibilities for repatriation of the foreign worker upon completion of its employment contract;
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.

Temporary work visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Certified copy of employment contract. The duration may not exceed three (03) months;
  • Temporary work permit issued by the relevant Algerian Authorities (Departmental authority of employment);
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.

N.B: Temporary work visa is also issued to a foreign citizen holder of a support contract or service delivery concluded either by himself or his employer with a partner company in Algeria.


Family Visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Evidence of occupation / student status (proof of your current occupation in Norway, e.g. an original letter from your employer);
  • Evidence of the applicant's relationship with the person or family to be visited in Algeria;
  • Invitation letter from the host;
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.

N.B: Spouses of Algerian registered citizens may submit a copy of the current consular registration card of their spouse instead of the invitation letter.


Medical Visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Medical certificate;
  • A letter of confirmation from the hospital or health care Centre;
  • Evidence of payment of care fees and sufficient funds for accommodation;
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.

Cultural visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Evidence of occupation / student status (proof of your current occupation in Norway, e.g. an original letter from your employer);
  • Copy of the invitation to a seminar or a cultural, scientific or sport event;
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for all expenses during the period of stay; 
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.

Transit Visa:

  • Valid passport with at least 06 months remaining validity;
  • Two (02) visa application forms, duly completed and signed. Original signature is required on each page;
  • Two (02) recent photographs;
  • Valid Visa or required documentation for entry to the country of final destination 
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for all expenses during transit time;
  • Travel insurance;
  • Payment of visa fees.
