The Embassy Commemorates the 63rd Anniversary of the October 17, 1961 Demonstrations
The Algerian Embassy in Norway commemorated today the 63rd anniversary of the demonstrations of October 17, 1961, under the supervision of His Excellency the Ambassador, Mr. Sher Kamal, during which the national anthem was played, the national flag was raised and the Fatiha was recited, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the souls of the righteous martyrs.
On this occasion, His Excellency the Ambassador delivered a speech in which he recalled the strong symbolism of this anniversary in the history of the restoration of national sovereignty, which claimed the lives of hundreds of Algerians who took part in peaceful demonstrations in Paris against the curfew and demanding self-determination and independence of Algeria on October 17, 1961, only to be met with repression, killing and throwing dozens of them handcuffed into the Seine River, focusing on the sacrifices of the righteous martyrs with their lives and their precious possessions, so that we may enjoy in the present an independent, free and prosperous Algeria.
